Disability Services

Services for Students with Disabilities

In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (ADAA), Blackhawk Technical College provides accommodations and support services to:

  • students with documented disabilities
  • students seeking Title IX pregnancy / parenting accommodations
  • students with a temporary, non-chronic impairment
  • students and guests with disabilities participating in BTC-sponsored activities and using BTC facilities

If you have a disability and would like to request accommodations, please contact Access and Accommodations Services at disabilityinfo@ccappz.com or stop in the Student Success Center, Room 2200.

Event accommodations: Please make requests at least two weeks prior to the event. Requests made with shorter notice will be provided if possible. For events at Monroe Campus, please contact the information desk at (608) 328-1660.

Students must provide written documentation of a diagnosed disability from a qualifying professional.

It may consist of educational, medical and/or psychological evaluations. This information is used to provide students with reasonable and appropriate accommodations. It is important to submit documentation as soon as possible to make sure accommodations are provided in a timely manner.

Your records will be handled in a confidential manner as outlined in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, ADA, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.

  • SmartPens, MP3 Players, digital recorders, tape recorders
  • Talking Calculators
  • Assistive Listening devices (ConversorPro, Pockettalkers, FM systems)
  • Electronic spelling aids (with and without voice)
  • Adaptive keyboards/input devices
  • Electronic reader (Kurzweil and Read & Write Gold)
  • Ergonomic equipment

Transition Services for Students with Disabilities

Transition services are available to all interested students with disabilities. Transition staff work with high school and adult students interested in attending BTC.

Learn more about these services:

Students explore career interests and develop a plan of action to achieve their educational or vocational goals. Links to vocational and community resources are established to increase success at school, on the job, and at home. Testing accommodations are also available.

Explore career options with interest assessments or one-on-one advisement.
Learn about the BTC campus and disability services by visiting our facilities.
Tour the campus; talk with advisors about specific programs, admissions, financial aid information; and discover what BTC has to offer.
Develop a transition plan.
Apply early, complete admissions testing, and fill out a financial aid application.
Meet with an advisor and Disabilities Services.
Attend a study skills workshop to improve time-management, self-advocacy, and notetaking skills.
